What do I do with my Loulette gown after my wedding?

CONGRATS! You did the damn thing! Now what to do with that gorgeous dress…

There are plenty of ways to show your Loulette gown some love after the big day. Some brides repurpose, some donate or sell, and others choose to hang on to their dress forever (we get it—it’s special!).

Whatever you’re thinking, we’ve got all the info you need to help you move forward post “I do.”

CLEANING

We always recommend finding a dry cleaner who specializes in wedding gowns—your dress deserves the extra care! Some of our trusted go-to’s are Cameo Cleaners, Natural Cleaners, and Jeeves.

The sooner you bring your dress in after your wedding, the better—stains and sweat wait for no one.

Any solid dry cleaner should be able to handle your Loulette gown, but it’s always smart to call ahead and ask if they’re familiar with the fabric. If your dress has details like beading, metallic thread, 3D florals, or fringe, be sure to double-check that they can handle those delicate elements, too.

REPURPOSING

In the spirit of sustainability—even after your big day—we LOVE when brides come back to give their gown a second life. From a simple hem to a redesign, we’re here for it, and all extra fabric is donated with Fabscrap. We want to see you party in your Loulette gown for years to come—just as it was meant to be!

Our post wedding alterations start at $250 as a hem and vary depending on your needs. Learn more about upcycling your gown here!

As for dyeing your dress—we don’t recommend it. Each gown is made from a mix of fabrics like recycled poly lining, silk, cotton, or nylon lace, and all those fibers absorb dye differently. The result? More tie-dye experiment than evenly colored finish.

PRESERVATION

Gown preservation is the next step after dry cleaning your gown. It involves carefully wrapping your dress in acid-free tissue and placing it in an acid-free, archival preservation box to protect it for the long haul.

Once preserved, be sure to store the box in a cool, dark, and dry place—away from sunlight, humidity, and heat.

If you're hoping to keep your gown as pristine as possible (maybe for a future celebration or just for the memories), we recommend working with a trusted professional like Madame Paulette or Hallak Cleaners.

If preservation is on your radar, don’t wait too long—we suggest doing it as soon as possible, and ideally within 6 months post-wedding.

RESELLING & DONATING

There are so many amazing places to donate your dress—but making a little extra cash and giving your gown a second party is never a bad idea!

Some of our favorite donation spots are Brides for a Cause, Brides Across America, and Housing Works.

If you're interested in resale, we offer Preloved Loulette—a consignment program where you can submit your gown to be listed for sale online or in-store. Our consignment split is 50/50, and payment is issued once your gown sells. Just a heads-up: we can’t guarantee a specific time frame for when that sale might happen.
